Starting Times 

  • Saturday, May 13th, 2017
    • Full Marathon:  7:00am at Washington Park, Ottawa, IL
    • Half Marathon:  Runners must meet at Ottawa Township High School prior to being shuttled to the Starved Rock State Park start line.  Shuttles will run intermittently from 5:30am to 6:30am.  The Half Marathon will start from Starved Rock State Park at 7:30 am. 

Time Limit

MARATHON: The time limit set for this event is 6.5 hours.  
HALF MARATHON:  The time limit set for this event is 4 hours. Walkers are welcome in this event. 

What is the weather going to be like? 

Spring weather in northern Illinois is extremely variable and unpredictable.  Layers are recommended and we encourage you to check local weather frequently leading up to the event to know what to expect. 

Where do I get my race packet? 

Packet Pickup is at the Walmart Health and Fitness Expo on Friday from 12:00pm to 8:00pm. located at the Ottawa Knights of Columbus Hall, 401 West Main Street, Ottawa, IL 61350.  

Race Day Registration/Packet Pick-Up

We encourage participants to pick up their packet at the Walmart Health and Fitness Expo.  Race day registration or race day packet pick IS available from 5:30am to 6:30am.  You should select race day packet pickup when you register and there is an additional $20 fee for this.  Full Marathon Race Day packet pickup will be at the American Legion, 901 LaSalle Street, Ottawa, IL 61350.  Half Marathon Race Day packet pickup will be at the Ottawa Township High School.  Race Day packet pickup IS NOT the same location as Friday's Health and Expo. Please make appropriate arrangements ahead of time.

Can my friend pick up my packet for me? 

Yes.  They will need to bring their picture ID and will need to sign a form saying they picked it up for you.  When you register, you can list friends/family members eligible to pick up your packet on your behalf.  You can also complete the form below to list an individual that is authorized to pick up a race packet for you.  Be advised you waive all claims of loss is that third party fails to deliver all items in your race packet to you.

I give permission for a third party individual to pick up my 2017 Sam Adams Starved Rock Country Marathon Race Packet. This packet includes my race number/bib, timing chip, and race participant shirt. I agree to waive all claims of loss or theft if the third party individual named below fails to deliver all items in my race packet. I agree not to allow another party to run using my number and/or timing chip.

What if I can no longer run?

We are sorry, but all registrations are final, and may not be refunded or transferred.  We also are not able to hold a registration over to the following year.

Where do I park? 

There are several parking areas designated.  Check out the map on the Race Information tab to see a map of parking areas.  

Where are the hills on the course? 

Check out the course map and elevation maps for more information.  

Where is gear check? 

Full Marathon Gear check is on the corner of LaSalle Street and Lafayette Street (next to Washington Park, volunteers can direct you there).  Bill Walsh is providing several vans for this purpose.  Gear check is available from 5:30am to 6:45am.  Half Marathon Gear check will be at the Starved Rock State Park and Stevenson Transfer is providing a large shipping truck for this purpose.  Gear pickup will be at the finish line near Albin Stevens Road.   

Where do I find the buses for the half marathon shuttle? 

Ottawa Township High School, 211 E. Main Street, Ottawa, IL.    Shuttle buses run from 5:30am to 6:30am.  

How often are there replenishment stops? 

There are 17 aid stations along the full marathon course and all have water and Gatorade.  Energy Gel (GU) will be available at the Mile 14 aid station. 

What if I need medical assistance? 

First aid stations with medical volunteers will be located between Miles 8/9, at Mile 17, between Mile 22/23, and at the finish line.  Volunteers will patrol the course to ensure any runner needing medical care is taken care of quickly and will arrange necessary transport. 

What if I can't complete my race? 

There is no shame in dropping out of the race.  If you want or need to drop out, please report to a Communication Volunteer on the course so they can contact a sweep van.  Once you have dropped out, you may not re-enter the course or cross the finish line.

When is the award ceremony? 

The awards ceremony will take place at the Lone Buffalo Block Party near the finish line.  

Where and when are the results posted? 

Results will be posted at the finish line.  Official times will be available on our website in 48 hours after the race.

I lost an item.  What should I do? 

Run Starved Rock Country is not responsible for lost or stolen items.  We will assist in any way possible to help you find your item.  Ask a volunteer for assistance.  

What else is there to do in the area?  

There are many beautiful places to see and fun things to do in the Starved Rock Country area. Check out the Ottawa Visitor's Center, Heritage Corridor, Starved Rock State Park, and Enjoy LaSalle County for lots of great information!

Is this race a Boston Marathon qualifier?  

YES! Please review the BAA website for specific details.
